Official Tournament League Rules

Masters Competition

The Masters Competition is an individual game type using the standard individual format with “invulnerability” and “nukes” removed from play. A single competition consists of each competitor playing one game with each available battlesuit, rotating through. The winner of the competition is the player at the end with the highest score (broken down to an average). That player is declared ‘THE MASTER’.

Battlesuit Availability

When selecting suits for the Masters Competition, management must take into consideration the quality of the suit, wear factor, and recent history of malfunction.

The number of battlesuits used shall not exceed the number of players competing, however there may be more players than battlesuits. In this scenario, players not able to participate each game shall have a bye. The bye shall be rotated through with the battlesuits.

Battlesuit Malfunction/Replays

Should a player believe his battlesuit is malfunctioning during a game, that player may leave the field to have the problem attended to by a staff member. THE PLAYER MAY NOT CHANGE SUITS. If the problem can be fixed quickly (eg low battery), the player must reenter the game. That player will be awarded a bonus 400 points to his/her total score for that game. If the suit malfunctions again during the same game, the player may elect to reenter the field or take an average*. If he/she does reenter the game, he/she will receive a 200-point bonus. If the suit malfunctions a third time or more, the player may elect to reenter the game, but will receive not further bonuses.

If the suit has a malfunction that cannot be quickly repaired, the player will receive an average.

If a suit suffers a terminal malfunction during more than three games, or cannot be repaired within the timeframe of three games, the suit will be removed from play. All previous scores will be erased and all subsequent games will be taken as byes.

If a game suffers a freeze or malfunction (eg game shutdown), the game will be replayed.

If a generator or neutral target malfunctions during an active game, the game will be replayed. If a generator or neutral target malfunction is noted before the commencement of any game, and cannot be repaired quickly, the target will be disconnected and the game will commence. No bonus scores will be given.

If a game has commenced and any player(s) have not taken the field, if it is no fault of the management or coordinator, the game will not be stopped or replayed. Players may, however, commence play during any game. It is the responsibility of all players to know which games they are scheduled to play and which are to be taken as byes.

Any player who is injured during a game and is unable to complete that and any subsequent games shall be awarded an “average” for that game and any following games up to a maximum of three (including the game in which he/she is injured).

Penalty Resolution

Before the commencement of the competition, three players (either competing or otherwise) shall be selected to form a Penalty Committee. Any player who believes they have been the target of an indiscretion during a game (as set out in the Official League Rules), that player may approach a member of this committee to lodge a complaint. The complaint must consist of

1: Player being lodged against
2: Type of infringement
3: Approximated time and place on the field
4: Game number.

The committee member must write down all of the above details and any other relevant information. The committee member must then approach the player against whom the complaint has been lodged and notify him/her of the complaint. The player lodging the complaint may not lodge another against the same opponent citing the same rule. (ie cannot make the same complaint against the same player twice).

Should a second player lodge a similar complaint against the same opponent, the committee member shall approach that person and give him/her and Official Warning. If a third complaint is made the committee shall meet and discuss the infringements. A penalty shall be awarded if the committee believe all the evidence to be true.

Any penalty marked with a star (*) to which there are witnesses shall be awarded on the first complaint.

Any penalty marked with an X (X) and any marked with a star which do not have witnesses to the event(s) shall be awarded on the second complaint, with an Official Warning given on the first.

Management may instruct the committee to award penalties for Illegal Language and Conduct Unbecoming for poor behaviour outside the game arena.

Averages

Any player who has been unable to complete a game due to a battlesuit malfunction or injury shall be awarded an “average” at the completion of the competition. The average is calculated this way:-

1: Add all players totals and convert each to a mean. Do not include games not completed due to malfunction or injury (eg if the competition consists of twelve participants and two players have not completed one game each, 10 players will be averaged on twelve games, and two players averaged on eleven).
2: Add all battlesuit scores and convert each to a mean.
3: Add every players average together and convert the total to a mean.
4: Take the mean of each player with an incomplete score and divide each with the mean of the total sum of players. This will give you a “percentile” (eg if Player A has a mean of 4400 and the total mean of all players is 4000, Player As percentile is 110%).
5: Multiply the percentile by the mean of the battlesuit for which the player has an incomplete score. The end result is the score awarded to that player for that incomplete game.(eg if the mean for a battlesuit is 5000 and Player As percentile is 110%, the player is awarded a score of 5500 for that game).
6. Once all incomplete scores have been calculated, new means are calculated for each player for whom the above procedure applies. (eg Player A had a total score of 48400 over 11 games, averaged to 4400. His percentile is calculated as 110%. The bonus score of 5500 from his incomplete game is added onto his total score of 48400. The new total is 53900, averaged over 12 games is 4491.67).
